Built from the inside, not sold from outside.
NorthLine exists to bring modern technology to a specialty insurance market that mass-market software has left behind. We already know how this industry works — so we're here to help without making you explain your business from scratch first.
25+ years in technology began outside insurance entirely — software development and architecture across automation tech, mobile development, ERP, theoretical physics research support, and predictive-analytics in energy management and conservation.
The move into insurance came as an early hire at Definity (then Economical Insurance), brought on in support of technology and architecture launching Sonnet — Canada's first bind-online digital insurance company. Rose quickly into director-level leadership in architecture and big data, working three fronts at once: legacy systems at the established corporate carrier, a greenfield build for the new digital company, and the integration between the two.
From there to Fairfax Financial’s innovation lab, working across a dozen of its global operating companies — Northbridge, Fairfax LatAm, Southbridge, SBS Seguros, Meridional, Odyssey Re, Allied World, Riverstone, Brit Insurance, Polish Re, Bryte, and Crum & Forster — spanning P&C, reinsurance, and specialty lines across Canada, the US, LatAm, the UK, Poland, and South Africa. Crum & Forster is also where this story picks back up.
From there to First Acre Insurance, taking a similar approach to Sonnet, solving for a complex and historically manual insurance onboarding process, designing the first fully digital quote and bind solution for farm, home, and agri-business.
Then, moving full-time as Chief Digital and Technology Officer for Crum & Forster's A&H division, gaining deep insights into both carrier and direct A&H models. At Crum i had the pleasure to work across divisions and departments, however gained key insights and expertise in employer stop-loss and travel. Following Crum, several months designing SkyWriter Re, and now NorthLine Consulting.
That combination means the workflows, the compliance pressure, and the operational reality of specialty insurance were learned from the inside — not assembled from a case study template.
